GlobalVillages
Facilitated Meeting Places

These are places where "online" and "offline" communities meet.

  • hacklabs
There's experience in a crossing between cybercafes and community centers. Some free-software user groups join together to share what they know and also what they ignore and want to work on. http://www.hacklabs.org/index_en.html The word "hack" should be understood not as a criminal activity but rather as a constructive one: http://www.catb.org/esr/jargon/ defines "hacker" in http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html#what_is

  • sprint
Another term that is used by some OS communities. When difficult problems arise and there is a lot of work to do, the whole community books a vacation in a nice place, where part of the time is dedicated to hard work and another time to total recreation and fun. Everybody returns home enriched! Global Villages might be good places to do a sprint!
